Abby Kott
Abby Kott, a senior from Aurora, IL, is pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is student of Debra Richtmeyer.
At Illinois, Abby has received awards and scholarships for her musical and academic success. She is a recipient of the coveted Presser Scholar Award, as well as the Woodwind Division Achievement Award, the Guy M. Duker Symphonic Band Award, and the G. Jean Sutter Music Education Scholarship. She also participated in the Thomas J. Smith Scholarship Competition and was awarded the full-tuition scholarship as a freshman. She was one of a few selected on the basis of musicianship rom a number of undergraduate female music majors.
As an educator, Abby is an active member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Band Association (NBA), where she served on the executive board as vice president for both of the organizations during her junior year. She also volunteers throughout the College of Fine & Applied Arts as a FAA Ambassador. Abby enjoys working as a saxophone tech at high school marching band camps during the summer.
Currently, Abby is the tenor saxophonist in the UI Wind Symphony. She has also performed with the Wind Orchestra, Philharmonia, and the Marching Illini. Abby previously was the alto saxophonist of the Graduate Quartet, as well as the soprano saxophonist of the Lyra Quartet. She has been privileged to participate in masterclasses given by the 4 & 4 saxophone quartet and Jean-Michele Goury.
