Anne Kunkle
A native of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Anne Kunkle earned her Bachelor of Music degree with High Distinction as a double major in Saxophone Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music, where she was a student of the renowned pedagogue, Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin. She also received a Certificate from the Catherine Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Program at Eastman, with an emphasis in entrepreneurial and administrative skills in the music industry.
As a soloist, Anne was awarded the First Prize at the NYSMTA Empire State Collegiate Instrumental Competition. She also won the First Prize at the WDAV Young Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Farrago 4 Saxophone Quartet.
Anne also possesses a broad range of performance experience, having performed with a wide variety of ensembles such as the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Musica Nova, as well as the Eastman Philharmonia. As a member of the innovative and creative ensemble, the Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP), Anne has performed at the prestigious Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. In 2016, she traveled with ESP to China, where she performed at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, as well as concert venues in the cities of Jinan, Ningbo, and Shanghai. The group has performed her arrangement of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No. 1, and is scheduled to feature her arrangement of Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 during the 2017-18 concert season.
As an educator, Anne has taught for two summers at the Eastman Summer Saxophone Institute, where she presented lectures and techniques classes to collegiate and advanced high school students. She has also held internships with the Eastman Office of Advancement, and Summer@Eastman, further enhancing her experience in organizational and administrative skills.
Anne was selected to attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, a residential arts high school based in Greenville, S.C., where she studied saxophone with Dr. Kyra Zhang. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studies with Professor Debra Richtmeyer.
