Undergraduate - Saxophone
Prospective students will be evaluated on their skills of tone production, intonation, musicality, lyrical phrasing, rhythmic accuracy, technical proficiency, sight reading, and overall musical experience. The student will be asked to perform:

- Two or more contrasting movements from solo, sonata, or concerto repertoire, demonstrating lyrical phrasing and technical proficiency.
- All major scales (two octaves) and chromatic scale (at least two octaves, preferably full range)

Graduate - Saxophone
Pre-screening requirement: ALL graduate saxophone applicants are required to submit a pre-screening recording along with their other application materials. Selections should include three contrasting pieces or movements from different major style periods.
Instructions for Pre-screening Recording: Pre-screening recordings should be submitted to the University of Illinois School of Music Dropbox. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit pre-screening materials and their online application well before the application deadline to facilitate the pre-screening process. All supplementary materials must be received by December 1.
Audition Requirements: Applicants for the M.M. degree should prepare a recital program equivalent to a B.M. performance degree recital. Applicants for the D.M.A. degree should prepare a recital program equivalent to a M.M. performance degree recital (piano accompaniment is not required). Applicants should also be prepared to perform major and harmonic minor scales (full range) and sight read. Applicants with jazz training are encouraged to also audition for the jazz faculty for possible assistantship consideration in the jazz division.
