Evan Clark

Evan Clark is an award winning saxophonist who is quickly establishing himself has an emerging artist. He is currently pursing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance and literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studies with Debra Richtmeyer as the teaching assistant. He recently completed the MM at Illinois and continues to be active as a member of the graduate saxophone quartet, Illinois Modern Ensemble and Wind Symphony.

Evan is gaining regional and national acclaim through competition successes. He was awarded 3rd prize at the 2014 International Saxophone Symposium and Competition by a panel of judges which included saxophonists Vincent David (Versailles Regional Conservatory) and Chien-Kwan Lin (Eastman School of Music). In 2014, he won the University of South Carolina Concerto Competition, earned 3rd prize in the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition. In 2013, he earned 2nd Prize in the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition as well as 2nd Prize in the LaGrange Symphony Young Artist Competition. Furthermore, he has made appearances as a national finalist in both the 2014 and 2013 MTNA Young Artist Woodwind Competitions held in Anaheim, CA and Chicago, IL respectively. In 2011, he earned 2nd prize in the MTNA Senior Woodwind Competition in Milwaukee, WI. Also in 2011, he was selected by the YoungArts Foundation as a national finalist where he spent a week in Miami, FL interacting and collaborating with other artists from across the country. 

Evan has performed and pursued additional studies in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has performed with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Charleston, SC as well as attended the American Saxophone Academy in Rochester, NY. In 2013, as a member of the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble, he performed in China at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing and the Shanghai City Theatre in Shanghai. In 2012 as a Magellan Scholar, he studied in Bordeaux and Paris, France with saxophonists Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, and Jean-Marie Londeix. Additionally, in 2011 he attended the Brevard Music Center where he studied with saxophonist Joseph Lulloff. 

Evan earned the Bachelor of Music degree in saxophone performance from the University of South Carolina where he studied with Dr. Clifford Leaman. At South Carolina, he was a recipient of the Theodore Presser Scholar Award and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He can be heard as principal saxophonist with the University of South Carolina Wind Ensemble on the CD Bernstein: Transcriptions for Wind Band released by NAXOS in 2013 and at soundcould.com/evanclarksax.
