03/04/2013 - Illinois Saxophone Studio success at BGSU!
The weekends events which took place at Bowling Green State University for the Region 5 conference have come to an end, with the saxophone studio from the University of Illinois making a strong showing in various formats, from solo, chamber, and large ensemble performances to masterclass participation. The opening night was marked with a memorable performance by Professor Debra Richtmeyer, soloing with the UI Saxophone Ensemble on Glazounov's Concerto in Eb, Op. 109, conducted by Dr. J. Michael Holmes.
02/11/13 - Morgan Lanahan named Winner of School of Music's Smith Competition
Congratulations to Morgan Lanahan, junior in Music Education, for being named one of three winners in the 2013 Smith Competition, through the University of Illinois School of Music!
14/01/13 - Weekend's Events a Success!
On behalf of the entire saxophone studio at the University of Illinois, thank you to everyone who was able to make to the masterclass and concert this past Sunday with guest artist Claude Delangle. It was an event that will not be soon forgotten by both the audience, and the studio members who had the opportunity to perform in the masterclass and concert with Delangle. 05/01/13 - Omar Haney Through in MTNA Competition
Congratulations to Freshman Saxophone Performance major, Omar Haney on being named the winner in the East Central MTNA Solo Competition "Senior Performance." He will advance to the national competition being held in Anaheim, California March 9-11, 2013.
01/13/13 - Claude Delangle at UIUC
January 13th, 2013 - Music Building Auditorium
9:30 AM - Masterclass || 2:00 PM - Recital
Claude Delangle, Professor of Saxophone at the Paris Conservatoire, will be presenting a masterclass and concert at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champain) campus!
Performing works by Debussy, Poulenc, Villa-Lobos, Glazunov, and a set of French folk songs by various composers.

The North American Saxophone Alliance Region 5 Conference website is now up. This year's Region 5 conference is being hosted by the Dr. John Sampen and the saxophone studio at Bowling Green State University, from March 1st - 3rd, 2013.

11/12/2012 - Congratulations to Tianyao He for advancing to the final round of the 2013 National YoungArts Competition. He is one of 150 musicians selected out of nearly 10,000 applicants to compete in the final round, taking place in Miami, Florida.
04/11/2012 - MTNA and ISSAC Competition Results
Congratulations to the UIUC saxophone students who competed in the Illinois State MTNA solo woodwind competition today.

26/10/2012 - PRELIMINARY ROUND RESULTS!
UI saxophonist Erik Elmgren (Sophomore - Performance), and former UI saxophonist Phil Pierick (BM, MM, UIUC) were 2 of the 12 saxophonists selected to move on to the Semi-Final round of the ISSAC international saxophone competition. 40 saxophonists were selected from a Pre-Screening recorded round to compete in today's Preliminary Round. Congratulations Erik and Phil and good luck tomorrow morning in the Semi-Finals!!
Congratulations also to Adam Hawthorne, who was selected to play in the Preliminary Round and played great today, but unfortunately did not make it to the semi-final round.

Two current UIUC saxophonists, Erik Elmgren (Sophomore-Performance) and Adam Hawthorne (Senior-Music Education) have been selected from a Pre-Screening recorded round to compete this Friday in the live Preliminary Round at The International Saxophone Symposium And Competition (ISSAC) being held at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music in the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, Georgia, USA October 25-28, 2012. They are students of Professor Debra Richtmeyer. Former student, Phil Pierick (BM, MM, UIUC) was also selected and will compete. Good luck!!
