Jenna DeVries
Jenna DeVries is currently a senior finishing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where she studies with Professor Debra Richtmeyer. At Illinois, Jenna is an alto saxophone section leader for the Marching Illini, plays alto saxophone in the Illinois Wind Orchestra, participates in the local chapter of National Association for Music Education, and is a part of the Sigma Delta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. She has also been involved with the Student Advisory Board for the School of Music, participated in jazz band, and is a James Scholar. Previously, she played tenor saxophone with the Lyra Saxophone Quartet for 2 years, as well as playing for the UI Philharmonia Orchestra's "American in Paris" in spring of 2016.
In addition to studying at the University of Illinois, Jenna has worked with high school marching band camps, conducted a summer community band, and performed with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra as an alumni from her high school choir. She has also enjoyed volunteering for various ILMEA conferences and School of Music events. In summer of 2016, she was fortunate enough to spend a summer recruiting at Interlochen Center for the Arts working as one of their Admissions Interns. This past summer, she worked as a Box Office Apprentice for the Spoleto Festival USA in Charlesron, SC for four weeks. Following that engagement, she spent nine weeks in Vail, CO working for Bravo! Vail as a development intern.
She is a former member of the choir Anima, the Young Singers of Greater Chicago and performed with them in Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, British Columbia and Alaska. In high school, Jenna won the John Philip Sousa Band Award, was drum major of the York Dukes Marching Band, performed in the Elmhurst College Chamber Music Academy and attended the Future Music Educator’s Program at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL. She attended York Community High School in Elmhurst, IL. where she studied saxophone with Roger Birkeland.
