Michael Chapa
Michael Chapa is a passionate performer and music educator currently pursuing his Master of Music Degree in saxophone performance and literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying with Debra Richtmeyer. In the spring of 2017, he completed the Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Music Education at Stephen F. Austin State University as a student of Nathan Nabb. Michael is currently an active member of the UIUC Wind Symphony and graduate saxophone quartet.
Michael has performed as a saxophonist with the SFASU Wind Ensemble, SFASU Wind Symphony, Orchestra of the Pines, Lumberjack Marching Band, Ethereal Saxophone Quartet, and the SFASU Saxophone Choir and has received awards such as 2nd Place at the Music Teacher National Association Young Artist Chamber Texas State Competition and Winner of the Stephen F. Austin State University Concerto Competition.
Michael has participated in masterclasses given by respected saxophonists such as Joe Lulloff, Frederick L. Hemke, the H2 Saxophone Quartet, and the Oasis Saxophone Quartet. As a member of various concert bands, he has performed in concert halls across Texas and performed with composers such as David Biedenbender, Steven Bryant, and Jess Turner.
