Nick Ortiz
Nick Ortiz is a sophomore in Music Education studying with Debra Richtmeyer and Evan Clark. Nick previously studied with Roger Birkeland for seven years, where his passion for music was cultivated. He graduated from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois, where he received the Ross Kellan Band Award. Nick was a member of the jazz bands, choir, and men’s acapella groups. He also held positions as saxophone section leader, drum major and principal saxophone in his high school’s Symphonic Band junior and senior year.
Nick has been performed with the American Heritage Orchestra, the Elmhurst College Saxophone choir, the ILMEA District 9 Concert Band and the 2016 ILMEA All-State Honor Band. At the University of Illinois, Nick is currently the social chair for the local chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a member of the Hindsley Symphonic Band, Marching Illini, Sixth Street Brass Band, and was formerly a member of Black Chorus.
